New Wave: Saadet Isil Aksoy

The ever increasing crossover between the worlds of fashion and film has made it necessary to look to the cinema rather than the catwalk to identify the beautiful people headlining designer campaigns and fashion magazine covers. With her feature film Yumurta (Egg) receiving acclaim at international film festivals, Turkish model/actress Saadet Isil Aksoy is emerging as one of those rare, versatile beauties able to captivate on the big screen and inspire the imaginations of fashion’s visionaries.

Name: Saadet Isil Aksoy
Age: 24
Nationality: Turkish

How did you start your career?
I was always captivated by the power of expressing oneself through any means of art. I woke up one day, I so wanted to say something to the world and I so wanted to be heard. As a result, I have chosen “acting” as my way of expressing myself in a body which both does and does not belong to me.

How would you describe your style?
Open and flexible.

What do you think is your best work so far?
My first feature film “Yumurta” so far.

Who or what has influenced you?
My mom and grandma, Virginia Woolf, Nazim Hikmet, Frida Kahlo, Tyler Durden, Cuba, etc. These are the first ones that have crossed my mind.

What sets you apart from other people in your profession?
Honesty, sincerity.

How would you describe your view of the world?
“Ever since my house was burnt down, I see the moon more clearly.” This is a quote from a photo exhibition called “Ashes and Snow”, and it’s profound for me.

Three people you would love to work with:
Emir Kusturica, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Natalie Portman.

Where do you find inspiration?
In life and lifelessness.

What are you loving at the moment?
J’adore Paris and spring and I am loving at the moment using this Velib thing in Paris in this great weather as a means of public transportation.

Film you think everyone should see:
“Children of Men” to see a real reflection of this sick world we live in today.

Best advice you have ever been given?
“Just be!”

At what point in your career will you feel as though you have “made it”?
The point where I will not think anymore that “making it” is the deal.

Many thanks to Saadet and Michael at Nathalie.
