From the depths of obscurity to the pages of our favourite magazines, each year brings at least one photographer to fashion’s forefront. Here is a list of six up and coming photographers that The Ones 2 Watch will be keeping an eye on in 2009.

Bruna Kazinoti :: Website :: Representative
Bruna Kazinoti’s name is one we have heard countless times over the past year. Her dark, low key work has appeared in all the underground heroes (Dazed, Qvest, Tank, Pig, etc). Schooled in Antwerp, Bruna is from Split and currently based in Croatia.

Eric Guillemain :: Website :: Representation
Apparently Eric Guillemain never set out to become a photographer. It was after he started assisting Peter Lindbergh that the passion for photography took over. Despite only shooting full time since 2007, his clean, impeccably lit images seem effortless. We’re hoping that in 2009 Eric will begin shooting more editorial.

Giuseppe Gasparin :: Website :: Representative
Giuseppe Gasparin takes serious fashion photographs but you can’t help but get the feeling that perhaps he doesn’t take fashion too seriously. His direct approach to photography contrasts with the subtle silliness that can be found in his images. His editorial work is like documentation of an elaborate game of dress up, and his portraits, which we particularly love, highlight the odd beauty of the subjects. There is a sense of humour about his work that is never over the top or gimmicky. Gasparin has shot for Rodeo and Crash.

Glynis Selina Arban:: Website
A degree in medieval studies might help explain the whimsical, romantic quality of Glynis Selina Arban’s work. But what we love most about Arban’s photos is her use of muted colour. Though she hasn’t had much published to date, it will be interesting to see what 2009 brings.

Jonas Bresnan :: Website :: Representative
Glamour. Sex. Extravagance. In a sea of new photographers championing neo-grunge and retro irony, Jonas Bresnan is the guy bringing sexy back. His almost monochromatic images amplify the luxury they portray, yet never to the point of tackiness. German-born Jonas has shot for Tush, Grazia and Squint, and is a frequent contributor to Oyster. He’s based in London.

Sebastian Kim :: Website :: Representative
When you launch a full time photographic career after assisting photographers with as much influence and acclaim as Steven Meisel and Richard Avedon, you aren’t going to escape notice. To date Sebastian Kim has shot for Numero, i-D, Mixt(e) and Interview but there is curiously very little hype to be found about him. Stylistically Kim is something of a changeling, so over the next year we will be watching to see how he refines and evolves his work.

Kim yes, the others no way!
Looks like the others are the recommended test photographers of the agencies.
(Maybe TO2W should have asked a few magazines, editors, companies creatives; not model bookers)
So much new talent doing amazing editorials and major advertisements.
This was NOT insightful/nor accurate/Simply the opinion of a purchased relationship with
“model bookers” via Models.com

Hi John and trumancapote,
The selection of photographers on this list is down to me and me only. It wasn’t influenced by the photographers listed, their reps or any model agencies (I only talk to model agencies about models).
I realise that there is a lot of talent out there doing great work but I chose 6 to acknowledge. These are a few of the people I have noticed over the past 6 or so months. I consider this list just the first part of a series. The photographers listed aren’t meant to be compared to each other as all of them have markedly different styles, and I’m sure very different aspirations and desired audiences and clients.
If you think that there are people needing to be looked at and featured then please let me know. I would love to know who you think is worth watching. Discovering new things is what keeps it interesting.

Everyone’s eyes should be on New York native fashion photographer BEN FINK SHAPIRO. Literally everything this guy touches turns to GOLD. With his striking images and vivid sense of what makes an original photo, I cannot believe that he has not yet been featured on this site! On his way to being one of the best fashion photographers in the world, BEN FINK SHAPIRO has landed some serious jobs lately including the Bergdorf Goodman catalogue, and various other impressive clientele.

EVERY single website that has been shamelessly promoted in these comments are crap. I’m not saying that all of the “photogs to watch” are all great. Some are some aren’t, but at least make sure, if you post a link to a site, that the photographer is even in the same league.

The photographers featured are really inspirational and different. Sorry there are so many haters out there. It’s easy to be a critic but so much harder to be a creative artist. Congrats O2W for your original choice of people to feature!
